A brief history of Pieve di Romena
The Pieve di Romena, Romena's Parish Church of San Pietro is a monument to spirituality and history. It is a masterpiece of Casentino Romanesque architecture, constructed in 1152 during a period of famine by parish priest Alberico. Constructed on top of earlier structures, such as an early medieval church and a Christian building over a pagan temple, the church was designated a national monument.
The core of the church is still intact despite centuries of damage, including the 1678 collapse of the original facade and later earthquakes, particularly the elaborately designed apse. Inside, each capital and column has elaborate carvings that tell a story, encircling visitors in a spartan yet mystical ambiance. The
It is now the home of the Fraternity of Romena, a group established in 1991 with the goal of embracing everyone and fostering beauty during trying times. In a rich historical and landscape setting, "Lo Sguardo" offers a distinctive octagonal area overlooking the valley, while the Garden of Beauty, which surrounds the church, offers a tranquil area for introspection and relaxation.
The Fraternity of Romena is a spiritual place for laic people, religious, families and anyone who wants to get back in touch with oneself, others and nature, inserted in a unique historical and landscape context.
